There as several ways to treat throat cancers. These are 

  1. Radiotherapy
  2. Chemo-radiotherapy
  3. Laser treatment
  4. Photodynamic therapy (for oral cancers)
  5. Surgery
  6. Combinations of all of the above

Surgery for throat cancers varies depending on the

  1. Size of the cancer
  2. What important structures the cancer is next too
  3. What surgery/treatment has previously been undertaken

All decisions regarding surgery for cancers are made as part of a Multidisciplinary team. This means that the patient is given the best opinion the hospital can, based on the expertise of several consultants, and the cancer team.
