There as several ways to treat throat cancers. These are
- Radiotherapy
- Chemo-radiotherapy
- Laser treatment
- Photodynamic therapy (for oral cancers)
- Surgery
- Combinations of all of the above
Surgery for throat cancers varies depending on the
- Size of the cancer
- What important structures the cancer is next too
- What surgery/treatment has previously been undertaken
All decisions regarding surgery for cancers are made as part of a Multidisciplinary team. This means that the patient is given the best opinion the hospital can, based on the expertise of several consultants, and the cancer team.
